As both Jim and SciFi mention, the choice would likely be SQLite, and that was the original plan for handling fully automated multi-server as pan now has. (SQLite is MySQL compatible I believe, so those that wished to could then use the full MySQL to access the same database if they desired.) I'm not exactly sure why Charles decided /not/ to go that route with the rewrite, except that he does try to keep external dependencies down, and as SciFi mentions here, no matter what is used, there /will/ be speed issues to be dealt with when header counts get into the multi-millions. -- Duncan - List replies preferred.
