http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358077 now has a
third draft of the patch which digs a little deeper for memory.

Here's a top snapshot of 0.114 (pan-old) vs. 0.114 + patch #3 (pan-new).
Both were started and then loaded a 30 day snapshot of a.b.dvd.

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
10331 charles 15 0 917m 910m 9.8m S 0 25.8 0:21.99 pan-old
10319 charles 16 0 400m 392m 9992 S 0 11.1 0:18.80 pan-new

Awesome! Certainly quite an improvement from old-Pan days. Now I don't need
2 Gigs of RAM to load large binary groups.

New snapshot, same testing conditions:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
28213 charles 16 0 357m 350m 10m S 0 9.9 0:18.95 pan

I'm running out of tricks, though. :)

Charles
