Hi, I really don't think this is a pan issue per se, but I thought I'd bring it up just in case.
pan sometimes will stall out while downloading binaries, and will never recover. The download speed indicator field at the bottom left gradually drops closer to zero kb/s and the only way to recover is to quit and restart pan. This sometimes occurs frequently and sometimes seldomly. I think what is happening is that pan is grabbing articles so rapidly that it's causing my old Linksys router to freak out. Some time ago Cox Communications apparently updated their network, which caused similar symptoms (intermittent loss of Internet access) at my dad's house. He talked to both Cox and Linksys technicians, but I'm a little fuzzy on what the outcome was. (Some statements were made about the hardware not being able to keep up with Cox's speed, but I couldn't get anything more detailed than that.) I haven't done enough research yet to totally warrant this email, but I did once remove my router from the network and then pan downloaded everything without a hitch. Is it possible that pan could be doing something to disrupt communications? It's been a little difficult to isolate the problem because I was also frequently getting the dreaded "you have exceeded the maximum number of news feeds" message back from my usenet provider. Perhaps this has something to do with the now-fixed issue of the server closing stale connections out from under pan? At any rate, I'll monitor both issues to isolate the cause... but has anyone seen similar stall-out behavior? Thanks, Jeff __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
