Do you know about the /etc/hosts file?  That is where the mapping
from IP address to host-name occurs (on your local network).

In Windows, of course, that file is located in
\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
You wouldn't really expect M$ to put a configuration file in a
location where configuration stuff belongs -- would you?
