I think you have mistaken what the active connections thing is indicating, and/or haven't waited long enough to see them go down. Connections stay "active" for some time after they go idle. Eventually, if no new traffic appears, they will terminate, but what that is displaying is the number of TCP connections that currently exist, whether they are in use or not. When the connection eventually terminates due to lack of use, /then/ you should see the status drop the number of active connections accordingly. IIRC, pan 0.14.x did the same thing, altho of course you only had connections to one server unless you switched servers and started additional connections since PAN then didn't do automatic multiserver as it does now.
