That's very weird indeed, particularly if you aren't updating your newsgroup list between appearance and disappearance, because PAN doesn't update the newsgroup list on its own. In that case, I'd say it's very likely a file system issue, as if the file with the list in it is there to read, PAN should read it and display the group as there, and that shouldn't change.
