Well, you can't be sure the data you send to the hosted backend is safe
there. This may be really important for companies using an ownCloud for
(collaborative) project work.

awesome if the realtime backend _is_ integrated in ownCloud.
But yeah, I know PHP is definitively _not_ made for Comet applications :(

As was already said, don't reinvent the wheel.

Owncloud should be the storage backend. The realtime communication
should be separated from the storage.
But you can take a closer look at remoteStorage.org for that.
