Hi Ron...

Some companies would not hire you if there is not a formal registration agency
behind the title (of an applicant). Companies particularly in the few states
that have no licensure for OT's only have NBCOT to ensure some degree of
competency.
A new grad that has not presented the exam...I don't know I feel certain that
minimal knowledge is obtained along with supervised hands-on experiences (
internships) to be a safe provider of OT services. I don't think I would want
to work with OT's that may or may not have the basic requirements for initial
certification. The unfortunate dispute between AOTA and NBCOT for propriety of
credentials only created more confusion that was necessary... I think every OT
practitioner should have a R or C behind their credentials. Licensure
requirements would only have a basic scrutiny on OT specific knowledge...just
about anyone can pay and attend a COnt Ed course...you can even do them online
for free!!! Would that measure competency?...I wonder ...
