I also think it can be more helpful when someone asks, "what can I use
to accomplish this particular task?", indicating what they want to do
with the software, rather than asking for an equivalent for some
proprietary application. There aren't exactly one-to-one correlations
between what proprietary and open source software can do. Sometimes you
might want to use what might be called a utility, such as a command line
operation, rather than bother with some large program.
