Hello Opensource.com community,
I wanted to provide you an update for some upcoming changes to
Opensource.com. Based on the feedback we got from our community and our
community moderators, we are making changes to the current points and
badge system. The changes are outlined below and will be implemented on
the site over the next few days. Depending on your current point
accumulation, you may get a new badge assigned to your user role during
these changes.
The first three levels will remain the same. We are replacing Rock Star
with the "Open minded" badge, and splitting the point level in half to
achieve the next level. We are adding the "Open source evangelist" badge
to fill the new point spread. We are splitting the Open Source Sensei
level in half and prefixing it with an "Open source champion" badge.
Here's what the new points and badge levels look like:
Newbie (0-9 points)
Community Member (10-29 points)
Open Enthusiast (30-99 points)
Open Minded (100-499 points)
Open Source Evangelist (500-999 points)
Open Source Champion (1,000-2,499 points)
Open Source Sensei (2,500-4,999 points)
Open Sourcerer (5,000+ points)
*Change log*
1) Replace Rock Star with Open Minded, reduce 999 points to 499 (100-499
points)
2) Add Open Source Evangelist (500-999 points)
3) Add Open Source Champion (1,000-2,499 points)
4) Move Open Source Sensei up to the 2,500 level (2,500-4,999 points)

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. We believe
this new point structure with additional badges allows our community to
achieve new levels at a faster pace through their site participation. We
will be updating the existing page describing our points and badges as
well: http://opensource.com/points-and-badges
Thanks for everyone's feedback during this process, it's exciting to see
the changes come to life.
Jason
