October was another record month on opensource.com with our highest
traffic ever to the site: 245,766 page views.
The traffic for our "what is open source page?" is top notch. We
improved to the #1 position in search results for "What is open source?"
beating out wikipedia. We had over 11,000 page views and it was the #3
most visited page on the site--behind the homepage and the top post this
month, an interview with Google's Chris Dibona.
Our media partnership with All Things Open and LinuxCon Europe really
helped to create some quality content this month. We also have over
10,000 Facebook likes.
We launched three new eBooks:
* Open always wins: A Michael Tiemann collection
* How open source is shaping the future of business and our lives
* Open source video editing for beginners: Kdenlive series
Available at: http://opensource.com/resources/ebooks
Finally, we tested using promotional widgets on the site to highlight
popular content (Reader favorites) that generated an additional 1,000
page views for the site and reduced the site bounce rate by at least 1%.
We will continue to iterate and pivot on this idea.
