It's actually quite easy to expose the position of the last non-matching character. This is similar to the partial matching question that came up a while back, that I also indicated wouldn't be difficult to implement. The state of the matching process is all stored in Perl5Matcher. If someone wants to propose a change and submit a patch to oro-dev for either or both pieces of functionality, please do.
