Here's a different option to consider if you aren't really using the client except to get to a terminal server. I didn't want to have to deal with teaching users a different desktop.
I also have an AD environment. I am only using the client to access a terminal server and only use the client to RDP into the terminal server. That is, I don't use any other client features. I set the client up as a kiosk which automatically opens an RDP window to the terminal server. AD then authenticates the login in the RDP window. I set the RDP application to automatically reopen after logout. I have about a month's worth of experience with about 10 terminals in a school and have gotten no complaints. Once the students understand how to get to their USB drives, they are happy. Everything else is setup by AD group policy or scripts. Of course, if you really are using the client as the desktop, then this isn't for you.
