Maybe it will also help to shift the balance between technical and emotional-personal-drama-fueled messages toward 'technical'. Only slightly related: maybe not everybody know that this mailing list can be read through web archives, and you can even subscribe to it while not receiving messages at all and preserving your ability to write to the mailing list. This may work for some people who don't read the list often but sometimes want to reply.
