Hi All, I'm hoping someone will have an idea of what I'm doing wrong here...
We're trying to install OpenSolaris 2009.06 on a brand new SunFire x4540, and the installer sees the compact flash disk and installs everything fine to it, no errors during install. But when we reboot, it just drops us to a grub prompt: grub> and that's it, it doesn't see the boot loader, the kernel, anything. I'm able to boot the OpenSolaris live CD and run some utilities like 'format', and they see the flash disk, and I can even see data on it. Th computer just won't boot from it. I called Sun and they basically told me they had no clue why it wasn't working. I checked the BIOS, the flash disk shows up there as well and is first in the boot order, so that's not the problem... The compact flash disk we're using is a SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro (gotta love the way they make these products sound so awesome). ;) Is it remotely possible that the Compact Flash disk just isn't compatible? Also, during the install, when it asks "Do you want to use the 'whole disk' or a 'partition on the disk'", I've tried both of those and both times it seems to install fine, but we get the grub prompt on reboot. I've also even thought that maybe the disk headers on the flash disk were borked somehow and did a 'dd' to overwrite the disk headers and then re-installed - same result of getting dumped to the grub prompt. Anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance for any insight!!
