Dear Sailor, we are working on a new concept to enter buoys, lighthouses and other seasigns in openseamap. currently someone has to go there in a small boat with a gps-receiver, capture the position and then enter it manually. this is timeconsuming.
We believe there is a better way. Every ship has a magnetic compass and a crew. someone of the crew owns a smartphone. The Sailor captures 3-5 Bearings from his current position to the buoy. The Smartphone records the position and let the sailor enter the bearings, that he has captured with a compass. From this data, the position of the buoy can be calculated. This way, the ship dont have to leave its course, the mapping can occur while sailing by. Mapping can even occur from ships, that are way too big for spontaneous coursechanges, like ferrys or cruiseliners. To develop this app, we are organizing a hackathon from the 23rd to the 25th. Because we need buoys to test our app, we will be doing this hackathon on a boat. The Boat is a 15m long Katamaran with lots of bunks, showers, toilets, power and other comfortable stuff. We will bring internet, network, food, drinks and everything else to make you feel comfortable and productive. We will leave the harbour on the 23rd of November, at 1400 local Time and we will make landfall on the 25th of November, after the release of the App around afternoon. The Harbour is Marina Lanke in the North-West of Berlin. Our mission is: "Board the ship with just a concept, leave it after release, have lots of fun" We still have 4 free bunks and we are looking for developers who would like to come with us. We are looking especially for people who can develop in python (for the backend), and also for one Person who is good in Webdesign/Interface design. The whole event is free of charge, it is sponsored by the Hackerfleet. We are sponsoring this Event, because we want that Data. Not only for us, but for every open mapping project. The Software that will be developed during the Hackathon (and everything else, that the Hackerfleet does) is opensource. If you like to come with us, please contact us as soon as possible. Please contact me via phone, or email if you have further questions. If you know of a friend, who might be interested in coming with us, please tell him. Cheers ijon PS: Because of the short timeframe for this announcement, I made a crosspost to de-talk, to berlin-talk, to openseamap and to openseamap-developer. I would like to as you to kindly excuse my behaviour, if you got this message several times. -- Mit freundlichen Grüßen Johannes Rundfeldt Geschäftsführer Telefon: +49-151-51 68 70 42 Email: [email protected] Tel: +49-30-577077571 Fax: +49-30-577077579 Hackerfleet GmbH c/o Betahaus Prinzessinnenstr. 19-20 10969 Berlin Handelsregistergericht: Amtsgericht Charlottenburg Handelsregisternummer: HRB 134892 B vertretungsberechtigte Geschäftsführer: Heiko Weinen, Johannes Rundfeldt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Monitor your physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure from a single web console.
