### Editor's Note ###

Hiya, folks! Today we're featuring not one but *two* new authors. Len
Dimaggio and Juana Nakfour are kicking off a two-part series on
"influence" in the open organization.

As we're always quick to note, power operates differently in open
organizations—rarely top-down, more commonly bottom-up—and that means
leaders and contributors alike need to rethink their approaches to
influencing organizational decisions.

Drawing on open source software communities as examples, Len and Juana
explain how this is possible. Check it out!

In open organizations, people gain influence primarily through
contribution—not formal title or position in a hierarchy. To make an
impact in yours, start here: red.ht/2lOQCo2 #TheOpenOrg

"In #opensource communities, influence operates differently. It can't be
bought, inherited, elected through a ballot, bestowed through a job
title, or gained through celebrity." red.ht/2lOQCo2 #TheOpenOrg

"When preparing to attain influence in an open organization, look for
problems that need solving. That way, your contributions take the form
of solutions as opposed to unwanted additions." red.ht/2lOQCo2 #TheOpenOrg
