### Editor's Note ###

Hi friends,

Today is a day I've been anticipating for quite some time. Brook
Manville just released initial findings from his research on the concept
of "meritocracy" in open organizations, and he's sharing his insights
with our community in a new piece called "A New Perspective on
Meritocracy." In this article, Brook offers a model for understanding
the factors that influence ways a meritocratic system of organizational
governance might function in various contexts.

Brook was kind enough to open his research process to me, and I've
learned quite a bit watching him conduct some fascinating conversations
with leaders and practitioners over the past few months. I've written a
companion piece to Brook's, "What we (think we) know about
meritocracies," and we've just published that, too.

Both articles are now live. Please enjoy, and do post or send us your
feedback!

In other important news, last week's articles on "assuming positive
intent" from Sam Knuth and Jim Whitehurst continue to draw readers after
LXer [1] and LinuxToday [2] syndicated the pieces (respectively). Thanks
to our awesome community for helping circulate this great writing.
