Symas provides free, drop-in replacements for RHEL7. Your client should be
using that instead. Spending time on OpenLDAP 2.4.44 is an utter waste of
time and effort. Alternatively, use the builds from the LTB project. But
there's zero reason to be using what's provided by RHEL. Especially if you
want things to, well, work.

You may also want to read the slapd-mdb(5) man page, particularly the
"maxreaders" configuration parameter.
