I think i have to add all the databse derectives in slapd.conf
by adding this before "databse mdb" i was able to make it work.
database config
# rootdn directive for config
rootdn "cn=admin,cn=config"
rootpw {SSHA}XXXXXXXXX
###
databse mdb
