This PR is being closed in favor of #2139, which resolves the same issues using 
a more conservative approach.

By preserving the existing GtkWindow-based implementation and limiting the 
scope of changes, the risk of introducing regressions is reduced.

Additionally, it was observed that GTK does not render on GtkWindow when 
`gtk_widget_set_app_paintable` is set to `true`, which further supports 
avoiding the previous approach.
