Seriously, why should dues paying members listen to people unwilling
to pay the dues at 30 Euros? It's not as if it's required for access
to the existing mailing lists.
....

To my understanding, this is NOT a fee for OI development, having access
to repositories, etc., but ONLY for the costs of a steering committee !
It is neither. We are trying to create a legal organisation in order to
support OpenIndiana/illumos.
The support is not about developing OpenIndiana or illumos but collect
money (member fees, donations, ...) for funding it.

We have areas where we want enhancements and no volunteers can be found.
So offering paid work might change that.

In order to be able to create a foundation we need enough members, a
managing board (elected by the members; typically with elections every
two years) and a charter.

So, becoming a member of the foundation would allow you to discuss and
define the charter, take part in the elections (vote for board members
or even become one of them). The only duty of members is to pay the
yearly member fee. Everything else is voluntary.
