I see this behaviour on an BE from 28th Nov

$ ssh admin@con3
(admin@con3) Password: 
Received disconnect from 172.16.xx.xx port 22:2: Too many authentication 
failures
Disconnected from 172.16.xx.xx port 22


but on a BE from 4th Dec it works normal with 3 attempts possible before 
failing finally.

Can you confirm this for mate-greeter login.
