Thanks, John,

The text installer on the GUI ISO is not the same as what's on the text
installer ISO? That's not good.

If they are different that should be clearly stated in the text installer
opening screen on the GUI ISO.

I'll burn a text ISO and give that a whirl to see how it goes.

I can always work around the issue by using an MBR and migrating the pool to a
new vdev. I did that to change from 1 TB to 2 TB disks on my Solaris 10 u8
instance when disks got cheaper. It's tedious and should not be necessary. But
if no one wants to assist me in fixing the problem I'll just do that if the
text ISO has issues. Triple boots are not for sissies. I've usually used
swappable drive trays just to avoid the installer hassles. But there are cases
where it's the only option. The Z400 lets you choose optical, USB or hard
drive, but not which hard drive.

With the text installer from the text ISO, you can choose option 3
to escape to a shell, format and create and export your rpool,
then exit back to the installation menu and select option 1 to
install OI.
Then choose F5 to install to your existing rpool.
