Everything seems fine. But I don't understand why LD_LIBRARY_PATH
influence glxgears behavior in such case.
Can you run ldd /usr/bin/glxgears and env
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/X11/lib/NVIDIA/amd64:/usr/X11/lib/NVIDIA ldd
/usr/bin/glxgears ?
