I fought this a couple years ago and eventually figured it out, but the sequence is slightly vague in my mind. It's something to do with the 1G header file mentioned on http://wiki.openindiana.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=25231661 being too small or too large for your usb stick. If you google around for that, I think you'll find the solution; if not, hit me back and I'll try to help more than just a point in the right direction from memory :)
