We're not aware of any reasons to prefer a8 over a9 for any use.
Uhm, there is one major nit: If you update all your zpools on
the newest features of a9, you cannot boot and import your
pool using a a7 ISO boot image (and there's no a9 ISO).
This affects crash recovery.
So it would be a good thing to have an a9 ISO boot image.
