i want to set a value of 0x4000 in word 106 of an intel dc s3700.

what is the best way to go about doing this? smartmontools, as best i can tell,
is basically a wrapper around SCT commands. it doesn’t seem to offer the
ability to set values at the word level. am i missing something?

is there another tool i can use?

intel has done something completely stupid. they have changed the default
sector size on the dc s3700 products from 512 bytes to 4k in the latest
firmware. IMHO, they should have added the 4k feature but left the legacy 512b
size as the default.

consequently, i have to rebuild my zpools or touch every new drive they ship to
make it compatible.

sigh.
