Documentation is on wiki as I know, there is SFE (spec files extra) for porting software, and two visible Openindiana development tracks. pkg.openindiana.org /dev (latest public is 151a7) is what is latest release to a wide audience. /hipster is OI rolling release, recently implementing fresh Illumos builds, newer JDK and oi-userland consolidations. (hipster.openindiana.org:8080 to see how Jenkins and github are making Hipster) jds.openindiana.org (pkg.opensolaris.cz/osol/) brings updated JDS consolidation - Java desktop system (old name for Gnome, and X and programs in a pack) , should be tested on top of: /dev-testing (or on top of Hipster) and brings newest changes in JDS.
