Thanks all for pointing me to smbios, it does print out lots of
interesting info - but neither the full listing nor a direct
query like above say anything about temperatures or fan speeds.

The 77 entries are get mostly enumerate the hardware - PCI slots,
memory modules, connectors on MB known to its BIOS and so on.
The nearest thing to non-permanent state is the power-on status :)
In fact, this set of infos is similar to outputs on varied servers...

"prtdiag -v" suggested by Ken did not display the temp/fan status
info, not on this handmade desktop, and not on Sun servers either.
