This is only true of PERC H700 and higher cards. PERC H200 and H310 are capable of running in true JBOD mode (since they are based on LSI SAS2008). Beware of the H310-Mini, though, these cannot be reflashed to the proper LSI firmware due to a nasty little boot-bomb in Dell's BIOS.
