There has been some discussion recently about using Poisson distributed 
interarrival
times instead of fixed interval. This could have an impact for network tests. 
Neil Gunther
recently posted an excellent blog on the subject. It might be time to revisit 
iperf and add
some features :-)

oh, and don't forget to disable C-states, if appropriate.
