Actually in my case it is a complete system freeze. No input, frozen video, no ssh, router lights signal no activity.
Today I put in a new Asus GTX 550 Ti and the notices have gone away. No crashes either so far, except for one when I tried to run glxgears... will investigate tomorrow. Thank you for all the help!
