Some things to check:
- check routing in the zone with "netstat -nr"
- check name resolution in the zone, both /etc/nsswitch.conf and
/etc/resolv.conf.
My bet would be that /etc/nsswitch.conf doesn't have the necessary
"hosts: dns" setting ... but other problems are possible.
