I'm using an ATI Radeon Juniper card (HD5770) and I reported a little

Best thing one can do with AMD graphics on Solaris/Illumos and
Openindiana is to get rid of it,
and get Nvidia graphics card that actually have proprietary binary
drivers for Solaris/Opensolaris based OS'es.
I am also stuck with buggy Intel driver on my notebook locking from
snv_131 onwards.
KMS implementation for Illumos that could later bring newer drivers to
Illumos/OI is in (slow) development and needs many more people in it.
(KMS is implemented in Solaris11 but is officially closed source even if
visible) And KMS is needed for newer open drivers ports.
Maybe best thing would be to bring more people to KMS Illumos
implementation and porting radeon and other drivers.
Safe bet - grab Nvidia card and throw/sell your AMD card/do not buy AMD
graphics,
until AMD makes it's drivers for Solarises, too and that might not be
very soon.
AMD also could help making Illumos KVM vrtualization support working for
AMD CPU's..
