I think you are another victim of bug #1333. See https://www.illumos.org/issues/1333
for the details.  Changing the mode of the APIC timer by adding the line

   set apix:apic_timer_preferred_mode = 0x0

to /etc/system works for me - at least as a workaround until a new OI release will be
available.
