If you're looking at getting a laptop, check out System76. They ship all of their laptops with Ubuntu pre-installed, so the hardware tends to be more on the open side.
My (older) Pangolin Performance worked with OI no problem, except I think the Bluetooth and fingerprint reader didn't work (the latter never worked with Linux, either, but I didn't try fixing that).
