There's renaming logic here. Which provides much more flexibility than a package would. You could have a different name for each image recipe for example, instead of having to use a distro, packageconfig, bbappend to modify it. Is it a valid use-case we want to support /me shrugs, be we already do support it in wic, so maybe that ship has sailed already.
