OK, perhaps I drank that beer too soon... Now, numpy.test() hangs at:
test_pinv (test_defmatrix.TestProperties) ... So perhaps something is wrong with ATLAS, even though the building went fine, and "make check" and "make ptcheck" reported no errors.
