In my part of the IT world I would choose neither. I don't believe that any
data should reside on the PC. All data should be in a central location that is
under DR, HA, redundancy and backup/restore control of an IT team(s). If a PC
goes bye bye, it gets rebuilt or restreamed on next boot. Group Policy or
other methods are used to connect the user with their data and the user should
care less if "their" PC gets rebuilt or restreamed on a reboot.

Just my $0.02US worth

Thanks

Subject: Advice re Workstation Backup Solution

Hi everyone

I'm currently about to replace a number of old XP workstations with Windows 7
workstations. I am currently looking at two options in order for me to be able
to recover the workstation from a hard disk failure.
Option 1 - Have a second drive installed on which to store the backups of the
primary hard disk. Acronis would be used to perform the scheduled backups.
Option 2 - Have the workstation configured with RAID 1 so that in the event of
a hard disk failure the user can continue working.
Which option would you recommend that I choose? With option 1 I would have the
additional expense of having to purchase an Acronis license for each
workstation.
