exchange.getResponse().getStatusCode().value())` unconditionally calls
`.value()` on `getStatusCode()`. If the upstream has not set a status code,
`getStatusCode()` returns null → NPE. Caught by outer `onErrorResume` →
silently skips transformation.

stack traces.
