The Manufacturing module currently has a limited raw material reservation and
issuance process, affecting accuracy and flexibility. Materials cannot be
reserved when a production run is approved — they can only be issued. This
allows the same inventory to be promised across multiple runs, thus leading to
conflicts, delays, and mismatches between system records and real usage.
The system also enforces a rigid LIFO method, ignores configured substitutes,
and doesn’t support manual lot selection. For instance, if multiple lots of the
same raw material exist—some close to expiry or with better quality—users have
no control over which one to issue.
To address this, three key features are proposed:
* Manual Lot Selection - Let users reserve and issue materials from specific
lots through the UI, thus bypassing FIFO/LIFO.
* Automatic Reservation - Secure inventory automatically at production approval
using FIFO/LIFO, avoiding cross-run conflicts.
* Substitute Issuance - Issue substitute products when primaries are
unavailable.
Together, these changes reduce inventory issues, improve accuracy, and bring
the system closer to real-world manufacturing needs.
