Opened #4397 against `2.x`, taking the first option: `MapMessage.appendMap` now escapes `"`, `\` and `]` in values with a backslash, which also fixes the `StructuredDataMessage` rendering that shares it; the XML, JSON and Java formats are unchanged. The PR has tests (including the reproduction from this issue), a changelog entry and a note on the visible behaviour change (for instance `C:\temp` is now rendered as `C:\\temp`). -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
