Are you using a Groovy installation or using Groovy via build dependencies?

I haven't tried recently but there is a good chance that you can just use a 
later testng version in your build file. There may be some breaking changes in 
later testng versions, but I would guess that most of the classes we use 
haven't changed. But please do let us know if try this and it doesn't work. If 
you are using a Groovy installation, you'd need to delete the relevant testng 
jars from the lib directory and replace with newer ones.
