It's not Firefox declining but rather WebKit based browsers' monopoly taking over everything. Opera caved in for many years now and Firefox is the last bastion standing. It is neglected by the web developers and tools.
Just like very few distributions are standing still against the ugly bloated security blob what Systems represents. I would still advise using Firefox, only use Chrome on those crap websites which are not standard enough.
