The additional caveat is that Cat 5/Cat 6  (24/23 AWG) are not
designed to transmit power over about half an amp.  So depending upon
what the power requirements are of the external equipment, this may or
may not work.

If in doubt, you can always buy exterior-rated power cable, and run it
through the wall to a GFCI-protected outlet on the exterior.

Or the better way to go might be to simply run Ethernet through the
wall at that point and put the router inside.
