The bandwidth with Comcast is ample. I would have them check on what (if
any) terms they have on the voice lines. Vitelity can easily port out of
Comcast (that's what I did).  Vitelity also offers a failover so if your
primary DIDs aren't registered for some reason, you can route to voicemail
at Vitelity and/or failover to another phone number (in my case, my cell
phone).  I have had this arrangement  both in Murfreesboro on Comcast
business and in Franklin on residential Comcast for a good number of years
now. if they have static IP, you can set up the end-user side of FreePBX
to email the voicemail and/or access them with a web browser. It works
well. I think the port out to Comcast for Vitelity is a 30-day process
(mainly due to Comcast dragging it out). But since Vitelity has call
termination in this areacode already, it is a certainty it can be done.
The only issue might be with any Triple Play discount packaging. Vitelity
also has a nice vFax service where you can port your fax number to them
and then they receive faxes on your behalf and send them by email
(avoiding the need to hit-n-miss fax over IP and/or T.38). You can even
send out through the same mechanism from a PC or by web browser. 

 

I don't work or represent them other than I have been satisfied with their
service and support. FWIW, FreePBX Distro loads up and works well under
vSphere, KVM and Xen/Xenserver.

Mark, I talked to them this morning and found out that they do have
Comcast for their broadband and Comcast is delivering their current phone
service.  I ~think~ it is being delivered via two RJ11's on the back of
the Comcast modem/router/VoIP gateway and it is feeding a VERY old and
rudimentary phone system.  There are only 3 handsets in the office with
basic voicemail and no ability to check their voicemail from off-site or
forward calls or anything.

phones (bought of eBay - never at retail $).  I have used Vitelity for

Asterisk packagings, and FreePBX Distro seems to have everything well

I've been asked to help someone out who runs a very small office (I think
they only have 3 phones) with getting a new phone system.

 

Ideally, I want to get them something that has fairly low cost and very
low maintenance requirements, since there won't be anyone on staff to
actually babysit this thing.

 

I know there are some cloud-hosted PBX systems out there, these days, and
also some very small appliance PBX's.  I wondered if anyone on this list
has any experience with either or both and can comment on what might be a
good fit for a small office with no IT staff.
