(Addressing the OP) I suspect that the Snake Oil salesmen won't be willing to provide this information; but they should be willing to provide the name of a web site where they have arranged for it to be configured already. So if you can encourage them to name one that gives a different response to client requests for http://their.example.com and http://their.example.com/, you'll be able to show that your nginx site does exactly the same. (Or does not do the same, if that happens to be the case.)
