Hi, I'm using SuSE 10.1 with ndiswrapper and an USB wifi adapter. I connect to my home access point with a 40bit WEP key and it usually seems to work fine. Let's say I called my access point "HOME".
The problem is that on occasion I will lose connectivity. I will bring up the list of networks using the applet, and the only network visible would be my neighbor's (let's call it "REVO"), which is *not* protected. It claims to be connected, but nothing's coming through. No other network is visible. So then I bring up "iwlist scan wlan0", and it does show "HOME" as being available and having the best S/N ratio. It also correctly shows the list of available networks (there's like 10 or so in my apartment complex). So if I use "iwconfig wlan0 HOME", and "ifconfig wlan0 up", it all works again, but the applet dies and does not come back. More annoyingly, firefox tells me I'm offline, even though I'm not. This may be related to the fact that even though "iwlist scan" will show a bunch of access points with varying S/N ratios, in the applet they are always all at 100%. This might explain why although my HOME network is usually 20-40 dB better than all my neighbor's, network-manager seems to switch to REVO for no good reason. What's even more confusing is that even though REVO is unprotected, I can't use it. I also have another Vaio running XP, and it connects to REVO no problem. I think there must be some configuration clashes with the WEP settings in YAST, KWallet, and network-manager. Any ideas? -aml __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
