You will have a hard time figuring it and many people (me included) will keep a good distance with an issue which includes > 400 ko of unknown gcc 3 compiled binary code (even if the md5 of the binary things are the same for the 2.4 and the 2.6 driver). That being said, it seems that the 2.6 version of the driver uses workqueues where 2.4 driver used native kernel threads.
